Thieves steal ATM from Clio business

CLIO, SC (WBTW) – The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the community’s help in finding two suspects who broke into a business on Hwy 381 in Clio early Thursday morning and stole the ATM from the building.

Lt. Jamie Seales says deputies responded to Cash and Carry on Hwy 381 in Clio around 1 a.m. Thursday morning in reference to an ATM theft and store burglary. Surveillance video shows that a white van backs up to the door and one suspect uses a pry bar to pry the door open, Lt. Seales reveals. The second suspect gets out and they both go inside the store and hook a chain to the ATM in the store and then use the van to snatch the ATM outside. The suspects then load the ATM up and leave the scene.

Scotland County Sheriff’s Office had a very similar incident on February 17 and the ATM was found not far from the store in Dillon County, reports Lt. Seales. Deputies in Scotland County have one person in custody in connection with that crime. The methods the suspects used in both cases are very similar. Dillon Police report the same type of crime in a recent incident, says Lt. Seales.

Marlboro County deputies have developed persons of interest in Thursday mornings ATM theft, and are working with law enforcement departments from neighboring counties in efforts of “connecting the dots with possible multiple suspects in multiple jurisdictions,” states Lt. Seales.

Investigators have issued a multi state bulletin about this crime through SLED and have already got information from other agencies as far a Georgia. If anyone has any information about this case or recognize any of the people in the photos, please contact the MCSO at 843-479-5605.
