Body of Myrtle Beach man found in Intracoastal Waterway near Wilmington

The body of Francis Dellapelle, 61, of Myrtle Beach, was found in the waterway near the Figure Eight Island Bridge about 11:30 a.m. March 23.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Deputies in New Hanover County say the body of a man found in the Intracoastal Waterway nearly one week ago near Wilmington has been identified as a Myrtle Beach man.

The body of Francis Dellapelle, 61, of Myrtle Beach, was found in the waterway near the Figure Eight Island Bridge about 11:30 a.m. March 23. The body was discovered by a fisherman who called the Coast Guard.

Authorities say Dellapelle’s body was likely in the water for as long as 36 hours before it was found washed up on a sandbar. Dellapelle’s death has been deemed undetermined by the medical examiner until the toxicology has come back, says Lt. Jerry Brewer, with New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
