Support Military Spouses needs help sending care packages

Volunteers, including two representatives from the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, help pack care packages for Support Military Spouses on Tuesday in Longs.

CONAY, SC (WBTW) – Support Military Spouses, a grassroots effort that has helped tens of thousands of military families who are stateside, is based in Horry County and could use help this week to send off care packages.

Diane Rumley, co-founder of the group with her husband, said corporations donate items like coffee cups, stationery, health and beauty kits, and office supplies. Rumley’s volunteers pack the items into care packages, along with handwritten thank-you notes from elementary school students and ships them a few times a year to military spouses at installations across the Carolinas and Georgia.

Tuesday morning, volunteers gathered at the group’s headquarters on S.C. 9 near Longs to start sorting, packing, and boxing the kits.  They also plan to work Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and are looking for volunteers to help.

Anyone who would like more information can check out supportmilitaryspouses.org or call the office at (843) 290-5255.  Support Military Spouses is located next to Coastal Sleep Lab at 1580 East Highway 9 in Longs, across the highway from Living Water Baptist Church.
