Adult Education launches STAND UP event

CONWAY, SC – Students Taking A New Direction Uplifting People (STAND UP) will offer educational and supportive services to adults and out-of-school youth with free programs and activities on Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Horry County Schools Adult Education, together with other programs and agencies, is working to help job seekers access employment, education, training and support services to succeed in the labor market, and to match employers with the skilled workers they need to compete in the global economy.
“Our event is geared at re-engaging out of school youth and adults who’ve found they lack the necessary education and skills to make it in today’s society,” says Adult Education Director Etta Carter. “We will have a number of agencies on site providing free workshops, training, job interviews and applications for employment.”
Participating organizations include SC Works, Sea Haven for Youth, Goodwill Industries, Horry County Schools Attendance, Job Corps, Health Care Partners, Warehouse Project, youth mentoring program U.P.W.A.R.D. and several others.
Each of the organizations will be offering services such as resume writing, employment assistance, financial literacy, job training activities, GED and college preparation, English as a Second Language assistance, and more.
Activities will be held at the Conway Education Center, 1620 Sherwood Drive, two blocks behind the Conway Feed & Garden Center, and will include breakfast, lunch, music, games, information and giveaways. Free childcare will be available for attendees who pre-register by calling 843-488-6200.
