CHARLESTON, S.C. – A funeral event was held Saturday for a 3-year-old boy who was found dead at James Island County Park on May 14.
Duffy Craig McLemore, 3, of Ladson, was laid to rest a week after his death at the Holmes Avenue Baptist Church located at 4602 Durant Avenue.
On Saturday, May 14, police notified the public that authorities were searching the area for McLemore who was reported missing around 4:45 p.m.
Police said the body was found at 10:03 p.m. in a “marshy area” of the park.
Authorities said McLemore suffered “what appears to be an accidental drowning.”
“The Charleston Police Department, Charleston Fire Department, James Island Fire Department, Coast Guard, Charleston County Rescue, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and SLED participated in the search,” said Charles Francis with the Charleston Police Department.
“This is such a tragedy for this family and the community. The family needs our support and prayers,” Francis said.
Family and friends gathered to remember Duffy on Friday evening at the J. Henry Stuhr Northwoods Chapel located at 2180 Greenridge Road in North Charleston.
According to Duffy’s obituary, he is survived by his mother and father; sisters, Lori and Rose, brothers, Blake and Charlie; maternal grandparents, Jack and Barbara Eagle; paternal grandmother, Jo Ann Amole; aunt, Katie; great-aunt Betty; uncle Don; a large extended family and friends and his pet, Kitty.
