Lance Cpl. Matt Southern with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened just before 10 p.m., on Red Bluff Road near Little Hal Lane. A car with two children inside was traveling south on Red Bluff Road when the car crossed the center line and hit a minivan head-on, Southern said.
One child and one adult in the 2001 Mitsubishi car died, and the other child in the car was hurt and taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Southern said. The adult and the child who died were not wearing seatbelts, he added. The other child was not in a proper child restraint, he said.
After notifying family, early Saturday morning Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler released the names of the three people killed. He said James Lawrence, 24, Lylah Lawrence, 3, and Victor Kelley, 59, died in the crash. All three lived in the Loris area Fowler said.
Fowler said all three died “due to mass trauma” caused by the crash at 4613 Red Bluff Road.
Southern said the driver of the 2001 Dodge minivan was entrapped in the vehicle and died. A passenger was also in the minivan. That passenger sustained minor injuries and was also taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Southern said. Both people in the minivan were wearing seatbelts he added.
The highway patrol is still investigating what caused the car to cross the center line.
