Event aims to bring together cops, kids and the Grand Strand community

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – On Saturday July 16, 2016 the Grand Strand Community Law Enforcement Appreciation Committee (CLEAC) will host a “Connecting Cops, Kids & Community” event.

The event aims to develop a relationship of trust, friendship and understanding of the many different groups along the Grand Strand and will include food, socializing and activities with local public safety departments.

The public is invited to the event that CLEAC co-chair Bennie Swans says is all about relationships.

“Relationships are absolutely essential,” said Swans. “Because once I know who you are and once I feel good about you and you feel good about me, we always have a greater opportunity to resolve whatever differences we have. We may disagree, but we never have to be disagreeable.”

Kenneth Jackson works at the Boys and Girls Club of the Grand Strand and says the summer is especially important for kids to stay active and engaged in the community.

“We really like to promote our public service workers and any opportunity that we have to have the kids with them and show them that we can have a really good bond is always great for us,” said Jackson.

Jackson added that the Boys and Girls Club wants to show kids that adults are good people.

“If you take the time to build good relationships and you take the time to do what you’re supposed to do, everything will be good in the end,” added Jackson.

The “Connecting Cops, Kids and Community” event will be held at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
