LYMAN, S.C. – A woman told police that her boyfriend threatened to kill her if she didn’t shoot him in the face, according to a Spartanburg Co. Sheriff’s report.
Deputies say they got a domestic violence call and when they got there, a woman said she and her boyfriend, 44-year-old Melvin Franklin Staggs Jr., started arguing because he didn’t buy her anything to eat.
She told deputies Staggs started punching her in the face and head. She said Staggs drove to Butler Road, turned off the vehicle and pulled out a knife.
Staggs threatened to kill her so she wouldn’t call the police, according to the girlfriend.
Staggs told her he wanted her to shoot him in the face when they got home. She said she told him “no” and he threatened to kill her if she didn’t shoot him.
Staggs tried to start the vehicle and it wouldn’t crank.
She says she escaped to her friend’s house after Staggs went to get a car battery.
The deputy says the girlfriend had swelling under her right eye and bruising with scratches all over her face.
