Fetuses found at Charleston waste water treatment plant

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Charleston Police department is investigating how two fetuses washed into a pump station at the Plum Island wastewater treatment plant.

Authorities responded to the James Island facility on August 8 after an employee believed they found a deceased baby in the incoming sewer line area.

Officers recovered the remains from the wastewater and turned them over to the Charleston County Coroner.

The coroner says the preterm fetuses appeared to be in the mid trimester range.

The Plum Island wastewater treatment facility service more than 54,000 homes and businesses in the Charleston, West Ashley, and James Island area.

Investigator say they do not know who or where the remains came from yet.
