4 new Horry County schools will open on time, 1 delayed due to land purchase issue

CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) – At Monday’s Horry County school board meeting, the board got an update on the five new schools being build in Horry County. Carolina Forest Middle School, Myrtle Beach Middle School, Saint James Intermediate School and Socastee Elementary School are all scheduled to open on time. Socastee middle school will likely be delayed because the land wasn’t purchased until five months after the contract was signed.

The CEO of the building company said these new schools will offer a lot in terms of technology.

“These schools have a very unique collection of spaces. There are collaboration spaces which are organized around the media center which is the central hub of the school. So students will work in the classroom and the collaboration space and they’ll have direct access to the media center, to the resources in the media center,” said Robbie Ferris, CEO of First Floor.

The schools are supposed to be ready in August of 2017. Socastee Middle will likely open a few months after that.
