Woman offered ride from Kingstree man; beaten severely and sexually assaulted, deputies say

Bobby Joe Fulton charged with criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping

KINGSTREE, SC – Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested and charged a Kingstree man with criminal sexual conduct 1st degree and kidnapping.  Investigator Alex Edwards says the accused is Bobby Joe Fulton, 53, of 1145 Kindle Park Road, Kingstree.

Edwards says on Saturday August 20,  at approximately 7:36 a.m. deputies with the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office along with Williamsburg County E.M.S. responded to 2 Nesmith Street, Kingstree, concerning a sexual assault incident.  He says upon arrival, deputies found a 26 year old woman severely beaten.  According to Investigators, the incident took place at 1145 Kindale Park Road, Kingstree.  Deputies say based on information at the scene, Fulton agreed to give the woman a ride to his home. They say Fulton later attacked the woman with a blunt object, and beat her in the face repeatedly. The woman was also sexually assaulted repeatedly to include being choked by Fulton, according to Investigator Edwards. The victim was treated at an area hospital for her injuries. Deputies say they were able to apprehend Fulton in the Kingstree area without incident.

Fulton appeared before a Williamsburg County Magistrate for an explanation of the charges against him. One count of criminal sexual conduct 1st degree, bond was set at $20,000. One count of kidnapping, bond was set at $20,000.  Fulton will remain at the Williamsburg County Detention Center until bond is posted.  The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
