Crews repoen Hwy 31 near International Drive after sinkhole

sinkholeMYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol says Highway 31 southbound is open from Hwy 22 to Robert Grissom Parkway/ International Drive after crews repaired a major sinkhole.

Highway patrol notified the South Carolina Department of Transportation of the two lane sinkhole on Highway 31 southbound Sunday night.

Troopers said the roadway would be closed until crews can determine what caused the collapse and repair the hole. Drivers are asked to use Highway 17 as an alternative route.

Workers could be seen excavating and filling the hole early Monday morning.

The North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety says the sinkhole includes Water Tower Road.
