EFFINGHAM, SC (WBTW) – Florence County Council is set to discuss bad conditions on Meadow Prong Road during its meeting tonight. People who use the road have contacted us over the past few months saying it’s dangerous and needs to be paved.
People living along on Meadow Prong Road say they are tired of talking about improving the dirt road and just want to see progress.
Over the past several months neighbors were given four different times for the dirt road to be paved but each time the plans fell through.
Councilman Mitchell Kirby said the road was postponed in the past because it needs a new drainage system before the paving can begin. Right now, the road washes out after big rain storms because of bad draining.
Kirby said, “We’re hoping to start as soon as possible, within the next couple of weeks to get this drainage problem done. To get the base solid before we can improve the road.”
Council now has to decide if it wants to approve a 92-thousand dollar contract to install the new drainage system.
Kirby said, “It took a little while to get the money to do these things. But it takes time. We can’t do it over night.”
The project will be fund with the Penny Sales Tax.
