WHISPERING PINES, NC– Two people were taken to the hospital and six family pets were killed in a fire Tuesday morning in Whispering Pines, according to the Aberdeen Times.
The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. at a single-story home located at 74 Pinelake Drive.
Fire officials say the fire was concentrated in a room where the fire started.
They say the entire house suffered smoke damage.
Two people were home at the time of the fire and were able to make an escape before emergency responders arrived, officials say.
The residents were taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Officials say the injuries are non-life threatening.
Officials say the cause of the fire is unknown.
Two dogs and four cats died in the fire, according to officials.
Firefighters were able to transport an additional seven pets to a local veterinary hospital for treatment.
Good Shepherd Pet Crematory & Cemetery were also at the scene to help officials with the dead animals.
Whispering Pines Fire Rescue, Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Pinehurst Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Whispering Pines Police Department responded to the fire.
