Below is a list of shelters that are open due to Hurricane Matthew. We will update the list as soon more come into the newsroom.
Evacuees seeking refuge from Hurricane Matthew should call 1-866-246-0133 to be directed to the nearest open emergency shelter anywhere in the state. The state’s public information phone system is operational 24 hours a day until South Carolina is no longer in danger.
The S.C. Emergency Management Division website lists emergency shelter status statewide and is updated in real-time by the S.C. Department of Social Services. For more information, you can also follow @SCEMD on Twitter and Facebook.
Coastal evacuees currently traveling or without internet access are urged to call the PIPS line if they need assistance.
Darlington County will be opening a shelter at 7 am on Thursday, October 6. The shelter will be at Darlington Middle School, 150 Pinedale Drive, Darlington, South Carolina.

The American Red Cross now plans to open shelters Thursday beginning at Noon and are on standby for possible overflow from Charleston and Beaufort counties.

According to Horry County Emergency Management, due to low occupancy at some area shelters locations are now being consolidated. Residents who need to go to a shelter should go to the following seven locations:

Officials had to move the shelter from Johnakin to Marion High School. We will be opening another Shelter at Palmetto Middle School in Mullins.
Williamsburg County Emergency Management Division has opened shelters at the following locations:
-Hemingway High School located at 400 South Main Street, Hemingway, S.C.
-C.E. Murray High School located at 95 C.E. Murray Blvd., Greeleyville, S.C.
–Tupperware Gym located on Tupperware Road 258, Hemingway, SC
The American Red Cross encourages people to bring the following items for each member of their family:
• Prescription and emergency medication
• Extra clothing
• Cot or sleeping pad
• Hygiene supplies
• Important documents
• Any other comfort items
• Special items for children and infants, such as diapers, formulas and toys, should be brought, along with other items for family members who may have other needs
