CHARLESTON, S.C. – Funeral Services for Keith Lamont Scott, the 43-year-old man who was shot and killed by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, were held on Friday, October 14 on James Island.
The funeral was scheduled to take place at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist of James Island. Murray’s Mortuary of North Charleston was in charge of the services.
Scott’s death led to two nights of violent protests, including unrest hours after the shooting Sept. 20 and more violence in downtown Charlotte the next night.
An autopsy found that Scott was hit in his upper back, stomach, and twice near his left hand during the encounter with police.
Scott’s family says they had to do a private forensics examination after the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department refused to provide its autopsy and toxicology analysis to either the family or the media.
