FLORENCE – Wilson scored 22 unanswered points to beat St. James 32-7 and break a four-game losing streak Thursday in their region opener.

The Tigers (3-4, 1-0 Region 7-4A) used big plays on defense to build an early lead. Zion Keith picked up a fumble and ran it 34-yards for a score to put the Tigers ahead 7-0 in the first quarter. An interception set up their second touchdown to make it 17-7 in the second quarter.

St. James’ only score came on a 73-yard run by Christopher White in the first quarter to pull the Sharks (0-8, 0-2 Region 7-4A) within 10-7.

Wilson outscored the St. James 15-0 in the second half to pull away.

South Carolina coach Will Muschamp was on hand presumably to check out Wilson defensive end Xavier Thomas, who’s the No. 1 player in the junior class according to ESPN. South Carolina State coaches also attended the game.
