CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A doctor has been arrested and charged with criminal sexual conduct following allegations that he drugged and sexually assaulted a woman in Conway.
John Alexander Webb of Conway was arrested Wednesday and charged with second degree criminal sexual conduct.
A report from Horry County police says officers responded to Grand Strand Medical Center on Oct. 12 in reference to a sexual assault.
The victim told police she met the suspect earlier in the week at the hospital while she was outside smoking a cigarette. The woman says a man in blue scrubs and a white lab coat sat down on a bench with her and they had a conversation.
The police report says the victim didn’t recall giving the man her phone number, but she began receiving phone calls and messages from a “blocked number” throughout the week.
The victim told police that she “just trusted him” and thought that he wanted to help her.
On Sunday, Oct. 9, the woman checked herself into the hospital and says she was very upset with the treatment she was receiving at the medical center. The victim said she was in contact with the suspect at the time, and he offered to pick her up from the hospital.
When Webb arrived to pick her up, he gave her two pills she identified as Valium prior to getting into the car.
According to the report, the man brought her to his home in Conway and gave her four more Valium pills and a rum and diet coke before he stepped out to “run errands”.
The victim told police when he returned, he led her upstairs and had sex with her, then drove her home.
Warrants say the suspect knew the defendant was known to suffer from substance abuse problems and is accused of “providing prescription medication and alcohol under the guise of providing treatment in order to change her mental and physical state and then using those states to initiate sexual intercourse”.
Online profiles say that Webb is a doctor of Internal Medicine affiliated with Grand Strand Medical Center.
Webb is currently being held at J Reuben Long Detention Center under a $20,000 bond.
