FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) – More than 20 roads are still closed in the Pee Dee.
Florence and Dillon County have the most road closures almost one month after Hurricane Matthew.
Seven roads are being contracted out in Florence County. Contractors were hired because some of the roads were so severely damaged they need specialized equipment.
South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) workers are still working with the 15 other roads in Dillon, Darlington, Marlboro and Marion County.
SCDOT officials ask for patience as they continue to work on repairing the roads. They also ask that residents avoid moving barricades and driving on closed roads.
Lorena pate, SCDOT Assistant District Maintenance Engineer said, “We’re working as hard as we can to get roads opened back up. But until then, there is a reason why road closures and detours have been set up. “
SCDOT officials hope to have roads repaired after thanksgiving. But that timeline may change depending on the severity of the damage.
