Police investigating Clemson student death

PICKENS, SC — A Clemson University student’s death is under investigation, according to the Pickens County Coroner’s Office.

According by a statement made by Clemson University officials, Carter Stephen Ainsworth, 22, died on Saturday, November 12.

Ainsworth was a senior biological science major from Mount Pleasant. He died Saturday and his death doesn’t appear to be accidental, according to the coroner’s office. They say Clemson Police Department is also investigating the death.

On Sunday, Clemson University President Jim Clements tweeted, “My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of student Carter Ainsworth.”

“The Clemson family is hurting at the news of Carter’s death,” said Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students L. Christopher Miller. “He will be deeply missed.”

The cause of death was not known as of Monday morning.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, November 14.
