HEMINGWAY, SC (WBTW) – The SC Board of Education made a ruling to suspend the teaching certificate of a Hemingway High School coach accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
The court order from Oct. 26 says Andre Laquan Weathers’ teaching certificate was suspended after allegations surfaced about an inappropriate relationship between Weathers and a 15-year-old female student.
According to the order, Weathers had less than one year of teaching experience and worked at Hemingway High School as a basketball coach and a social studies teacher.
“The SCDE has reason to believe that, due to the serious nature of these allegations of misconduct and corroborating evidence that such a relationship existed and that Mr. Weathers may pose a threat to the health, safety and welfare of students that may be under his instruction, emergency action is required,” the document says.
During the month of September, Weathers was accused of expressing his interest in the student by hugging and kissing her at school. The official documents also say that he texted the student, told her she was sweet and sexy, his “baby girl”, and he couldn’t take his eyes off of her.
Weathers was placed on administrative leave on Sept. 21.
The educator certificate will be summarily suspended until a due process hearing is held, or the matter is resolved, the documents say
