MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Grand Strand Health announces a series of childbirth education classes for December. It is suggested that parents take these classes eight weeks prior to the baby’s due date.

A one-day, six-hour Prepared Childbirth course will be held on Saturday, December 3 from 9 am – 3 pm at Grand Strand Medical Center. The fee for the course is $50.

A Sibling Preparation class for children ages 3-10 is scheduled at Grand Strand Medical Center on Sunday, December 18 from 2 – 3 pm. The class is free.

A Maternity Center Tour will be offered at Grand Strand Medical Center on Sunday, December 18 from 3:30 – 4 pm. The tour is free.

Classes offered at HealthFinders inside Coastal Grand Mall are: Infant Care on Saturday, December 10 from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm and Breastfeeding on Saturday, December 10 from 1:30 – 3:30 pm. Both classes are free. Infant/Child CPR and First Aid is offered on Saturday, December 17 from 10 am – 2 pm. The fee is $15 per person.

The Spinal Cord Injury Support Group will meet on Wednesday, December 7 at 6 pm.

The ARC Support Group will meet on Monday, December 12 at 5:30 pm.

The Cushing’s Support Group will meet on Tuesday, December 13 at 1 pm.

The Stroke Support Group will meet on Tuesday, December 13 at 2 pm.

The La Leche Breastfeeding Support Group will meet on Wednesday, December 14 at 10:30 am.

The Grief Support Group will meet on Tuesday, December 20 at 1:30 pm.

The Thyroid Cancer Support Group will meet on Tuesday, December 20 at 6 pm.

HealthFinders is Grand Strand Health’s community resource center, located inside Coastal Grand Mall beside Dillard’s. HealthFinders offers low cost, walk-in cholesterol and A1C screenings Monday through Friday from 10 am – 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am – 6 pm.

Grand Strand Health will sponsor a self-defense class along with a Look Good Feel Better workshop in December. There will also be a LifePoint candlelight ceremony to honor organ and tissue donors. All will be held at HealthFinders inside Coastal Grand Mall, beside Dillard’s.

On Thursday, December 1 from 6 – 8 pm, LifePoint will host a candlelight ceremony to honor organ and tissue donors. Donors and recipients are welcome to attend and share their stories. Candles will be lit in remembrance of the donors.

A certified self-defense instructor will discuss and demonstrate ways to avoid attackers on Thursday, December 15 from 6 – 8 pm. This class teaches how to react to an attack and be more aware of your surroundings. Those who attend should wear workout clothes and tennis shoes for this free class. On Monday, December 19 from 5:45 – 7:45 pm a Look Good Feel Better workshop will be held. This free program from the American Cancer Society is designed for women dealing with hair loss and skin changes from chemotherapy and radiation. Participants will receive a take home makeup package and learn specific techniques to help make most of their appearance while undergoing treatment. Registration is required: Call 1 (800) 227-2345.
