Horry County Police work to cut out crime this holiday season

CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – This holiday season, Horry County Police are looking at ways to prevent crime in the county.

Lt. Raul Denis says they’ve looked at problem areas over the last three years during the holidays.

They found the Tanger Outlets, the malls, and convenience stores are problem areas.

Denis says he believes one of the reasons they see crime around the holidays is because people are distracted.

“You know, we all do pretty long days, having to work all day and shop, pick up kids and do whatever. So, it just makes you more vulnerable and more likely to be a target of crime like that,” said Denis.

Denis says they plan to place undercover officers in the spots they’ve seen crime happen in the past.

“They could be anywhere at any time. So, the idea is that they’ll go to these areas that we see a lot of these crimes and either prevent them or be there to act quickly on them if the need arises,” said Denis.

They’d also like to remind people to lock their doors, keep their cars locked, and don’t leave bags out the open in your car when you’re shopping.

Denis says those are all things that could make you a target this holiday season.
