Coroner says no evidence of foul play in case of body found in Florence

FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – On Thursday, Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken identified the body found Jan. 10 in a wooded area near the Olanta community.

According to von Lutcken, the body of 42-year-old Charles Lee Hickman was discovered by individuals searching for him near his home. Friends and family hadn’t spoken to the victim since the previous Saturday night.

The coroner says the body was autopsied Thursday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and no evidence of foul play was discovered. The manner and cause of death have not yet been released.

Major Mike Nunn with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a body was discovered Tuesday afternoon behind a gas station in the Olanta community.

Major Nunn says he can’t release much information at this point, but he says deputies are investigating.
