Florence One in search of vocal stars

FLORENCE, SC – Florence One has announced the culminating competition date for District One’s Vocal Star. The event will be held on Thursday, March 16th in the auditorium of the SIMT Building on the campus of Florence-Darlington Technical College.

The competition will consist of performances by finalists from each age division (elementary, middle and high) with a winner named from each division.  The elementary competition begins at 5:30 p.m.; the middle school competition begins at 6:30 p.m.; and the high school competition begins at 7:30 p.m.  Admission is $5.

Performing Arts Coordinator Laura Greenway invites the community to share in the excitement of this showcase of District One’s vocal talent. “The opportunity students experience in this competition, teaches skills through music performance that will enhance their lives,” she said.  These students have auditioned and are all deserving of recognition; moreover, attendees at this event will be impressed by the array of talent that these students display.”

Elementary Division features the semifinalists: Jacob Gray, Dewey Carter Elementary; Emily Brawn, Lucy T. Davis Elementary; Marilyn Aland, Greenwood Elementary; Saniyah Gregg, Theodore Lester Elementary; Gavin Nichols, India Deas, McLaurin Elementary; Taylor Adkins, Curtis James, Chesney Blackmon and Gracelyn Driggers, John W. Moore; Jada Davis, Royall Elementary; Austin White, Heaven Rice; Timrod Elementary.

The middle school division semifinalists are: Reagan Jackson, Isabella Manuel, Sneed Middle; Tripp Taylor, Blake Nichols, Hailey Williams, Julianna Gray, Serenity Johnson, Greg Weeks, Southside Middle; Thulani Mfecane, Ashley O’Connor, Nyashia Burch, Jocelyn Franks, Williams Middle.

Semifinalists from the high school division include: Antonio Brown, South Florence High; Jazmine Bolden, Camryn Gardner, Erin Dozier and Victoria Maldonado, West Florence High; Daniel Hilbourn; Ayanna Davis, Alanna Freeman, Za’cuan McNeil; Tai’Jea Davis, Hannah Ward, and Tremaine Shannon, Wilson High.
