Man shot in Hartsville arrested on drug, weapon charges

HARTSVILLE (WBTW) – The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate a shooting that injured two people in early October.

According to Lt. Robert Kilgo with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened around 7 p.m., Monday, October 2, near Blanding Drive and Primus Park Road.

Kilgo says that one of the two victims has non-life threatening injuries and the condition of the second victim was unknown.

After the shooting, a search warrant was issued to search the victim’s vehicle and officials recovered 18.5 grams of cocaine and a gun.

On Thursday, Zaries Kenyatta Huggins, 41, of Hartsville, was arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent felony and unlawful carrying of a pistol. Huggins has since been released on a $17,000 surety bond.

Huggins pleaded guilty to two counts of armed robbery in 1998 and one count of distribution of crack cocaine near a school and also one count of distribution of cocaine base near a school in 2010.
